John Chambers

President & Co-Founder, GatorGuard Concrete Coatings

John Chambers is the President and co-founder of GatorGuard Concrete Coatings , a family-owned company he built from a side project into the Midwest's largest provider of premium epoxy and polyurea concrete coating solutions. What started as one homeowner's frustration with a subpar coating installation has grown into a multi-state operation trusted by more than 10,000 homeowners and businesses across Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, and the Carolinas.

Before launching GatorGuard, John spent years in the home improvement industry, including operating a successful gutter business. That experience gave him a front-row seat to what homeowners actually need from contractors, and where the industry consistently falls short. When a concrete coating installation at his own home failed to meet even basic expectations, he saw an opportunity to raise the standard for the entire concrete coatings market.

Rather than simply start another coating company, John took a different approach. He partnered directly with Eco-CorFlex, one of the nation's leading industrial polymer manufacturers, to develop high-performance coating systems engineered for long-term durability. That partnership gave GatorGuard access to commercial-grade epoxy, polyurea, and polyaspartic materials that far exceed what most residential coating companies use, and it became the foundation of the company's reputation for quality.

John's hands-on understanding of concrete coating challenges sets him apart from typical company executives. He has deep expertise in surface preparation techniques like diamond grinding, hydrostatic moisture mitigation (the industry's most common cause of coating failure), and multi-layer coating application processes that ensure each layer mechanically bonds to the concrete below. Under his direction, GatorGuard developed its signature process: a meticulous 2-3 day installation that prioritizes doing the job right over doing it fast.

That commitment to craftsmanship and customer experience led John to pioneer GatorGuard's " White Glove Treatment ," a full-service approach where the company moves and stores the customer's belongings, completes the coating installation, and returns everything to its place. It's a reflection of John's core philosophy: if you're going to do something, remove every obstacle that stands between the customer and a great result.

Under John's leadership, GatorGuard has completed more than 2 million square feet of concrete coating installations across residential garages, basements, driveways, patios, pool decks, and commercial spaces. The company has earned an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, maintains a 4.8-star average across Google Reviews, and was named one of the Top 10 Residential Coating Services Companies by Construction Business Review.

John writes about concrete coatings , garage flooring , basement protection , and home improvement to help homeowners cut through the noise and make informed decisions about protecting their biggest investment. His articles draw on real-world installation experience, material science, and the lessons learned from thousands of completed projects.
