Signs Your Concrete Floor Is Ready for a Coating

Bare concrete in a garage or basement wears in a few familiar ways. If your Columbus floor shows any of these, it is a good candidate for a coating.

  • Dust or powder that comes back no matter how often you sweep
  • Oil and fluid stains that have soaked into the slab
  • Cracks and pitting in the surface
  • Road chemicals and slush tracked in from the driveway all winter
  • An old paint or coating that is peeling or worn through

What Comes With Every GatorGuard Floor

Our Columbus crews install the same system on every job. Each floor includes:

  • A moisture-mitigating epoxy as the first layer
  • Decorative flake across the entire surface, for texture and impact resistance
  • A polyaspartic clear coat that resists scratches and chemicals and will not yellow
  • A finish that is easy to clean
  • A lifetime warranty from day one

The System

Four Layers on Every Columbus Floor

We don’t sell a simple epoxy floor. We install a hybrid epoxy polyaspartic system designed for the demanding climate of the Midwest. After diamond grinding, the four layers go down in this order.

  1. Moisture-mitigating epoxy. It penetrates deep into the concrete and creates a permanent barrier against moisture vapor transmission.
  2. Pigmented epoxy base coat. A thick layer that forms the core strength and color foundation of the floor.
  3. Decorative flake. Vinyl flakes broadcast to the point of rejection, so the entire surface is covered.
  4. Polyaspartic clear coat. A UV-stable, scratch- and chemical-resistant topcoat that seals it all in.

The Columbus page goes through each layer and the two-day install in full. If you are still comparing options, read our garage floor coating comparison.

Columbus Epoxy Floors

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this an epoxy floor or a polyaspartic floor?

Both. We install a hybrid epoxy polyaspartic system. A moisture-mitigating epoxy and a pigmented epoxy base coat go down first, decorative flake covers the surface, and a UV-stable polyaspartic clear coat seals it in.

  • How long does an epoxy floor take to install in Columbus?

Most Columbus floors are finished in two days. On day one the crew diamond grinds and repairs the concrete, then applies the epoxy coats and the flake. On day two we buff the floor and apply the clear coat. With cure time, the whole job runs 2-5 days.

  • When can I walk on the floor and park on it?

You can walk on the floor 24 hours after the final coat. We come back at 48 hours to move your belongings in, and you can park on it at 72 hours.

  • How much does an epoxy floor cost in Columbus?

The price depends on the size of the floor, how much prep and repair the concrete needs, and the coating system you choose. Our concrete coating cost guide explains each factor. At the free in-home estimate we measure the floor, inspect the concrete and give you a written, no-obligation quote on the spot.

  • Can you coat a basement floor in Columbus?

Yes. The first layer is a moisture-mitigating epoxy that penetrates the concrete and creates a permanent barrier against moisture vapor transmission, the #1 cause of coating failures. That barrier matters most in older basements on clay soil, where the water table rises and falls with the seasons.

  • Will the floor stand up to road salt and car fluids?

The polyaspartic clear coat is scratch- and chemical-resistant, which is what a Columbus garage needs against road chemicals and automotive fluids. It is UV-stable, so it will not yellow, and it leaves a finish that is easy to clean.
